This is the book that I would have wanted to have written. Plain homespun philosophy mixed with seasoned experience is at the core of this book, providing a practical no-nonsense approach when it comes to choosing a doctor and then staying on top of the situation. Dr. George LeMaitre clearly belongs to the genre of doctors who base care on humanistic values, relationships and common sense.

It is refreshing to revisit the doctor-patient relationship in light of our current schism between provider and customer, which appears to forever widen with the help of the third-party payers. Paradigm shifts in all of medicine tend to focus on high-tech impersonal care. Optimal care will only come about if we additionally heed the words of Dr. George LeMaitre.

I would mandate this book as required reading for all our politicians and legislators.

We have entered an unprecedented era in modern medical science. At a time of bewildering complexity in diagnosis and treatment of illness coupled with overwhelming access to medical information, the patient-doctor relationship is an essential determinant of the success of the medical encounter. George LeMaitre’s book, Choosing Your Doctor, emerges at this critical juncture to help guide the patient/consumer in the process of finding a physician who can be trusted. Written with the perspective of a veteran medical practitioner who understands the pitfalls and promise of a confusing medical system, this book provides a roadmap for patients to identify and cultivate a successful partnership with a physician.
